This project is being run by Autistic Adults in the Howth Sutton Autism Friendly Community
But all members of the community get involved, including families, TY students, Home-schoolers, neighbours and friends
Why?
Many Autistic people are very concerned about the future of our planet, so we want to do something to help
We have noticed a lot of coffee cups are dropped on the cliff path and in other areas around Howth and Sutton and we want this to stop
We want our area to be clear of littered disposable coffee cups, and ideally we want an end to single use cups in Howth and Sutton.
How?
We have received a grant from Fingal County Council to help us get this project started
We have used the grant to buy eco-friendly sustainable reusable coffee cups with leak-proof lids, which come with a lovely bag so they can be carried around and will last for many years.
We hope to sustain this project and keep it going for many years to come by using donations to buy more of our coffee cups to sell. Suggested donation = €20 per cup.
You can buy a cup at one of our distributors listed below.
We encourage our community to use our coffee cups and to bring them to our coffee mornings and events so they don’t use disposable ones
We are asking all local coffee outlets to offer discounts to people who bring their eco cup to their shop instead of using disposable coffee cups. You can find a list of participating outlets below.
We are promoting the outlets that subscribe to our campaign on social media and on our website. If you would like to sign up your coffee outlet, contact us on howthsuttonautismcommunity@gmail.com
We organise litter picks (click here for dates of upcoming litter-picking outings) to collect and audit the number of disposable coffee cups that have been thrown on the ground and in the hedges in Howth and Sutton and show our results on social media and on our website. So far we have collected 82 disposed cups.
What?
We sourced an eco-friendly sustainable reusable coffee cup, made from 20% recyclable steel. Keep drinks cold for 24 hours and hot for 12 hours.
It comes with a lovely bag so it can be carried around and will last for many years
For every cup we sell, a trackable mangrove tree will be planted in either Madagascar, Mozambique, or Kenya in the name of Howth Sutton Autism Friendly Community, and we will show this on our website and on social media. The reforestation provides the villagers with consistent income that helps them provide for their families.
Come join us for our litter picking sessions.
