What is the Autism Champions Programme?

In order to achieve our goal of being awarded the status of an Autism Friendly Community by AsIAm, we need local clubs, businesses and other organisations to sign up to become Champions!
Becoming an Autism Champion is not difficult, but it will make a huge difference to autistic people in Howth and Sutton.
There are 4 simple steps:
- Staff take a short training programme, either delivered in-person, over 2 hours by our training team, or taken online
- Introduce visual guides and supports – we will teach you how to do this
- Introduce some simple sensory accommodations – we will show you what to do.
- Commit to having an open accepting environment
On successful completion:
- Your organisation will be receive the Autism Champions Award
- Each trained member of staff will receive a Certificate of Completion of Autism Training

Organisations benefit too:
- Autism Champion Award – shows inclusive ethos
- Nicer environment for all customers/members and staff/volunteers
- Staff/volunteers trained – better able to handle different kinds of customers/members and situations; carries with them on their CV.
- More inclusive = more customers
- The organisation is promoted through our website and social media
